Women of Color in Tech and Social Media

As part of our Operation Disaster Relief Outreach Program, Express Yourself! continues to feature Super Smart Sundays celebrating new authors who have had their personal appearances canceled because of Covid-19.

Tech industry jobs are growing fast, offering great pay, career growth, and learning opportunities. Women of color, sadly, have not been able to fully participate in this boom. While there are barriers to overcome, Women of Color in Tech is an indispensable resource for building a rewarding future in tech. Packed with inspiring stories and practical advice, this book shows you how to uncover the resources you need to succeed. Host Siri Phaneendra interviews author Susanne Tedrick about her practical guide that will help women develop the blend of knowledge and skills needed for getting into tech--and staying there. Siri discusses her start-up,, a company that allows people to create physical, short-form books. The platform is user-friendly and as simplistic as choosing a template for your specific occasion, customizing a character, and adding personal content. After designing the book from cover to cover, your very own personalized book will be professionally printed, bounded, and shipped right to your doorstep. In segment three, a new reporter, Andrea Smith, joins the STAR Team with her segment, In the Spotlight. Today she discusses the big role social media plays on teen’s mental health in modern times.
