Andrea Smith takes the helm of hosting Express Yourself! Teen Radio and begins by reading the chapter about Time from the book Be the Star You Are! For Teens. She then interviews author Deborah Dolan Hunt as part of our Super Smart Sundays program to give authors an opportunity to discuss their books during Covid-19. Deborah’s book, The Visitor from 4-D by Deborah Dolan-Hunt is a light-hearted science fiction novel geared for middle-graders that is based on the time travel experiments some people believe occurred at the former Montauk Air Force Station. Deborah also discusses her work as a nurse, professor, and the writing life since she is the author of several different books. Andrea finishes the show with her segment of In the Spotlight focusing on climate change. She recently was on a boat in the Channel Islands where a pod of 1000 dolphins were playing. World biodiversity is declining. It is estimated that one-third of corals, freshwater molluscs, sharks, and rays, one-fourth of all mammals, one-fifth of all reptiles, and one-sixth of all birds are heading towards extinction. This doesn’t just affect global ecosystems, but it also affects our food security. The future of our planet greatly depends on us. Once we destroy our planet, we won’t be able to time travel backwards.
Bio: Deborah Hunt
Deborah Hunt is a nursing professor and writer who lives in New York with her family and the incorrigible Chewy. She loves painting, hiking, gardening, and cooking and often gets her story ideas while walking on the beach at Montauk. She has completed several online classes on writing for children and is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). She has published 3 nursing books and several award-winning children’s books. Her most recent book “The Visitor from 4-D” received the Gold Award from Literary Titan and her picture book “Same Inside Different Outside” won First Place in the Royal Dragonfly Book Awards and the Gold Award from Literary Titan.
