Although first responders would never say they are heroes, for those of us who experience their bravery and selflessness, we know they are filled with integrity. It’s little surprise that soldiers, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, emergency room nurses, and other first responders suffer immeasurably as a result of what they see and experience. Dan Willis served as a police captain, homicide detective, wellness unit coordinator, and SWAT commander. He is a graduate of San Diego State University and the FBI National Academy. He currently instructs nationwide on trauma, PTSD, and the process of healing.
