A Message from Founder/Executive Director, Cynthia Brian
Mothers are our first love, our first guide, our first inspiration. Moms give us smiles when we need them most, and even when we go off the path, they embrace us with love and forgive our faults. When I was a child, my Mom told me that she’d cut off her right arm to save me from harm. That image frightened me immensely as I wanted her to have both of her arms to hug me and my siblings. It wasn’t until I became a mother that I finally realized what she meant by those words.
The depth of a mother’s love is so intense, so deep that verbalizing it is impossible. Being a mother has been my greatest joy, my greatest accomplishment, and my greatest treasure. No matter what transpires in this life or in death, I will always be Mom. And for that gift, I am forever grateful.
To every Mom, I salute you and honor you. You are a priceless jewel. Celebrate you this Mother’s Day.
And…congratulations on being the sunshine, stars, and moon. Shine on!

To honor the sacrifices mothers made for their children, Anna Jarvis organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration in West Virginia in 1908.While arguing that American holidays were biased toward male achievements, she started a massive letter writing campaign to newspapers and prominent politicians urging the adoption of a special day honoring motherhood. Jarvis also established the Mother’s Day International Association to promote her cause.
Her persistence paid off in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. By the time of Anna Jarvis’s death, over 40 countries observed Mother’s Day.
